The Barefoot Eco Hotel（赤脚生态酒店） ★★★★

Everything, nice rooms, nice surrounding, lectures in the evening, possibility to buy different excursions

The only thing I wished was different was the dinner serving time. 8 p.m. was to late for me and my friend. If it was change to start at 7 p.m. it would be perfect.

I enjoyed my stay at Barefoot a lot, most of the time I was barefoot in fact. The room was beautiful, overlooking the sea. I loved the yoga practice in the mornings and there was a great selection of food in the buffet table, even for a vegetarian. The beach is absolutely beautiful, very relaxing holiday. I took part in several excursions and the guides always did their best that we would have a fantastic experience!

Excellent location

The location of the Hotel is excellent. When You want to go to experience a one-lifetime adventure in the Maldives and You cannot afford the 5-star-resorts bungalow prices, but you don't want to stay at a guesthouse in a local village, or in a cityhotel, the Barefoot Eco Hotel is the perfect choice, I'd return tomorrow. It offers you wonderfull whitesand beach with palmtrees and azure ocean, how you imagine the Maldives, normal catering and other optional services on an acceptable price. The staff is kind and available.

The place is full of italian guests and some of them are really italian (shouting from long distance to each other, avoiding queues, leaving mess behind,...), but if you manage not to pay attention, or let all of these just entertain you, you're good. The other thing that disturbed us was that on all service the Hotel applies automaticaly 10% of service charge + local tax. Moreover you'll find everwhere tip boxes and in addition the staff comes to you stating that you're free to give them tips. I mean, the catering staff is kind, but sometimes between two mouthfulls you have 3 of them to ask:"hello Sir, how are you, how was your day?!" and on the third day, you feel it too much... Anyway nothing exceptional, I'd really return tomorrow the way it was and it is.

There are not much activities to do if the weather is not good so it can get a little boring as the island is VERY small and quiet

It’s a very charming little hotel

We had the most amazing stay at The Barefoot Eco Hotel in Hanimaadhoo. The beach is clean and large and offers a great deal of privacy if desired. Beach beds are comfortable and clean, as is the bungalow we stayed in, located in beautiful and well-maintained gardens. We booked a “Deluxe Room with Ocean View” – the most expensive category - and ended up in the ground floor, which I am not sure is what we were booking but still it was great since you are basically able to walk right from your terrace to the beach with a few steps. The food was exquisite – better than most of the food offered in 5 star resorts. Freshly cooked every day, lots of local fruits and vegetables, excellent choices for vegetarians and vegans and delicious desserts, served by the most attentive waiters and kitchen personnel. We particularly appreciated that the dining area (al fresco) was very neat and clean, which unfortunately is not always the case in other hotels. Most of the other guests were friendly, considerate and respectful towards the personnel, the environment and other guests (except for one large family). We booked breakfast and dinner only which was absolutely sufficient. Snorkeling equipment can be rented for a couple of dollars at the diving school. Transfer flights with Air Maldivan were 290 $ per person. Covid test was $ 130. Don’t forget to bring cash money for tips (only cash machine is at the airport which is a 15 minutes bike ride away and does not accept every credit card).

Nothing major – since we are rather sensitive to noise, we would have appreciated to be informed upfront that our bungalow had a connecting door to the next-door-rooms. Fortunately, we only hat noisy neighbors for the first two nights. Also, mosquito nets upon demand would be a great upgrade for those who are afraid of big spiders (occasionally hanging out in front of the bungalows). Lastly, we would have felt better if the waiters and kitchen personnel had a day off every now and then. Wile none of them seemed to mind at all and nobody expressed discontent in any manner, all of us guests noticed that the personnel was always there, from early mornings to late evenings, around 14 days in a row (according to other guests who stayed longer).

I would recommend the hotel for those who are searching for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. The hotel is located in a nice place. The sandy beach is private, quiet and not-crowded. In addition, there is a wide range of excursions. The food is good, especially the fantastic ice-cream.

Très beau hôtel, respectueux de l’environnement et il y en a besoin aux Maldives. Zéro plastique mais faites bien attention à ne pas casser une bouteille en verre elle vous sera facturé 20$ Séjour mémorable

La struttura è moderna, pulita e accogliente. Le stanze sono organizzate in piccole villette a due piani, ognuna delle quali ha 4 stanze, e si trovano a pochi passi dalla spiaggia, immerse in un giardino tropicale molto curato. La nostra stanza era al piano terra con un piccolo patio rivolto verso la spiaggia. Era provvista di aria condizionata e un letto molto grande. È presente un’ampia area comune aperta su tutti i lati con ristorante, bar, libreria e zona relax. Abbiamo trovato davvero ottimo il cibo. Noi abbiamo fatto la mezza pensione con colazione e cena a buffet incluse. A colazione si può scegliere tra un’ampia selezione di cibo dolce e salato, con marmellate e dolci fatti in casa, frutta fresca; a richiesta il cuoco prepara al momento le uova come si desidera. A cena, ricca scelta tra cui in particolare abbiamo apprezzato il pesce locale e verdura fresca coltivata anche nell’orto della struttura. Per pranzo si possono gustare ottimi snack maldiviani in uno dei due bar. Lo staff è sempre stato gentile e disponibile. Abbiamo fatto alcune belle gite di snorkelling nei dintorni, dove abbiamo visto tartarughe, mante, squali e tantissimi pesci tropicali. Anche la spiaggia dell’hotel era bellissima con reef raggiungibile a nuoto in circa 15-20 minuti. In generale abbiamo apprezzato la strategia di gestione volta a limitare l’impatto ambientale e a sensibilizzare sulla conservazione del patrimonio naturalistico dell’isola, con il supporto della biologa residente (peraltro italiana). Wi-Fi ok. In generale è una struttura votata al relax, il che era proprio ciò che stavamo cercando, con un mare bellissimo, forse anche meno contaminato dal turismo rispetto ad altre zone dellle Maldive. Non è adatta a chi cerca animazione serale o notturna, anche se qualche evento viene organizzato (per esempio balli con musica maldiviana dal vivo, brevi presentazioni su biologia marina, proiezione di documentari a tema marino).

Nella nostra stanza c’era poco spazio per stendere i costumi e gli asciugamani bagnati. La posizione a circa 300 km a nord di Male costringe a prendere un volo interno, del costo di 380 dollari a persona.

Tutto meraviglioso. Puoi davvero camminare a piedi scalzi ovunque, la sabbia é soffice e pulita. Il giardino é rigoglioso e ben tenuto. Le camere sono ampie e ben arredate. La spiaggia é stupenda. Il cibo é fresco e buono , con molte proposte anche vegan. Lo staff é gentilissimo e super disponibile.

Mi é piaciuto tutto

wunderschöne zimmer, tolle anlage, extrem freundliches und kompetentes personal. sehr weitläufig, ruhig und friedlich. tägliches yoga, kleiner stand mit einheimischem essen, angeschlossenes tauchcenter. ich fühlte mich von der minute an, in der ich den flughafen verließ, abgeholt und aufgefangen und brauchte mich praktisch um nichts mehr zu kümmern.

am buffet gibt es leider gar nichts an einheimischer kost, von der maledivian night einmal pro woche abgesehen. auch nicht beim frühstück, dafür jede menge importierter eier - das ist nicht besonders "eco". der leiter des tauchcenters war zu beginn dermaßen arrogant und geringschätzig, dass ich fast aufs tauchen dort verzichtet hätte. er hat sich allerdings später sehr bemüht.
